International Student Ambassadors
Dare to be Digital are looking for two Scottish national students (i.e. having studied at a Scottish University for at least 3 years) within technology or the arts, interested in participating in Dare's international activities. Candidates will have good interpersonal skills and will be required to join a team from either China or India. They will be capable of undertaking a high level ambassadorial role to promote Scotland to other cultures, with high level interest in their performance in the role.
This is a fabulous opportunity to gain cross cultural work experience with all of the benefits of participating in Dare.
The successful applicants will have the opportunity to:
- Liaise with individuals from different cultural backgrounds
- Make a visit to China or India to meet an overseas team during May (applicants must have a valid passport before applying)
- Pre paid economy class flights
- Discuss, in person, the team’s game concept before it is finalised
- Join the team from China or India for the duration of the competition, based at the host centre in Dundee
- Receive a stipend of £170 per week
- Free student accommodation at The University of Abertay, Dundee (9 weeks June - August ‘08) where not living close to Dundee
- The team will also have a general budget of £200
- Attend the ‘Dare ProtoPlay’ showcasing event in Edinburgh (August ’08)
- Attend the BAFTA Video Games Awards in March '09 should their team win one of the main prizes at the Dare awards in August '08
The successful applicants will meet the following criteria:
- Undergraduate or postgraduate at a University or College of Art
- Can have graduated up to 2 years
- Excellent interpersonal skills
- Able to work under the leadership of an overseas team member
- Have not taken part in Dare before
- In good health and able to travel
- Passionate about video games with strong evidence of ability in programming or art
Previous unsuccessful entrants to Dare can apply (this also includes those who got to interview stage but got no further).
Whilst you will be eligible for all awards and recognition associated with participation in Dare you can expect to be required to vest your intellectual property created during the competition with the team in return for a fair recognition in the event of any commercial exploitation.
