Dare Indie Fest 2012@Dare ProtoPlay

Dare is calling for independent developers or studios to take part in the first Dare Indie Fest, presented by Abertay University Prototype Fund, held alongside Dare ProtoPlay. It is designed for helping indies to become more successful in their pursuit for a career in making games. There are two elements in the Dare Indie Fest: a showcase of your game and a conference with an amazing line-up of speakers. Dare Indie Fest is sponsored by UKIE, Dundee City Council, North Sea Screen and Interactive Tayside.

Venue: Caird Hall, Dundee
Event Dates: 10-12 August 2012 (Friday-Sunday), from 10am
Set-up date: 9 August 2012 (Thursday), from 9am

2D HTML5 Games - Workshop

This day long workshop will take you from a blank canvas to a 2D Platform Game Using HTML5, CSS3 and JavaScript. The work shop will look into 2D canvas, audio, building
objects, creating sprites and collision detection.The resultant game should
work in the newest version of all major browsers and inside of Windows 8.

Bring along your favourite browser, a laptop and plenty of enthusiasm and see for yourself the fun that can be had building on one of today’s most unique and promising development platforms.

UKIE Tax Break Consultation Session

Ukie will hold a tax break consultation session in Dare Indie Fest as part of a series of seminars across the UK in Birmingham, Bristol, London and Dundee.

These seminars are part of Ukie’s wider tax breaks consultation programme and aim to make sure that all parts of the industry are informed about how tax breaks might operate and give games businesses the chance to influence the way they will operate when introduced in 2013.
